Education

Palliative care is a growing field. Palliative care used to be associated mainly with patients who have cancer, now we recognise that palliative care is beneficial to everyone with a life-limiting illness.  Palliative care can be integrated into any care anywhere; it can be in the hospice, in patient facilities or in the community by hospice nurses, but also in the residential care facilities (rest homes and private hospitals) and in public hospitals.
Hospice Mid-North regularly holds trainings on site at our main office in Kerikeri. These programmes are the Northland Palliative Care Education programmes including those developed by Hospice NZ. Sam Boyd from North Haven Hospice travels around Northland educating health professionals about all aspects of palliative care.
