PALLIATIVE CARE HANDBOOK

2012 is the latest edition of the Palliative Care Handbook.  During 2012 we distributed 6000 copies to health professionals via the hospice network.

The purpose of the handbook is to provide an easy to use resource that suggests ways to manage challenging symptoms that the authors have developed during their many years of experience.  The Handbook is useful in any place where palliative care happens - it gives confidence to those who use and it and therefore hopefully comfort to the people appoarching the end of their lives.

STANDARDS OF PALLIATIVE CARE

On 13 April 2012, we released the Hospice New Zealand Standards for Palliative Care.

The national standards and the accompanying quality review programme will provide a comprehensive continuous improvement framework for hospices, but will be applicable to all health services working with people who need a palliative approach and end of life care.

We have had a great response from our members, with all of you agreeing to undertake a self review within the next twelve months.  We will support you through this first cycle of self review and the associated peer review component of the programme over the coming two years.

We hope you like the presentation – there has been a conscious effort to capture the spirit of palliative care in the document with inclusion of the many faces of New Zealand, and whakatoki (Maori sayings), gifted to Hospice NZ by Maori elders associated with Hospices across the country.

You can read the Standards in full by clicking on the link below.
