Retail plays an important role in supporting Hospice Mid-Northland. Every donated item, volunteer shift and customer purchase helps generate funds for local Hospice care.
Across Kowhai Corner, the furniture shop and the main Hospice Shop, recent changes have made the retail spaces more practical, safer and easier for the community to enjoy.
Kowhai Corner
Kowhai Corner relocated on 14 October 2025 into the former furniture shop beside the Processing Centre.
Its previous location was more isolated and did not have easy access to toilet facilities. The move brought volunteers closer to the wider team, strengthened security and placed the shop beside the Processing Centre and other retail activity.
Kowhai Corner specialises in art, collectables, curiosities, antiques, dress-up items and pieces with a point of difference. It is not a standard op shop, and that distinct identity is part of its charm.
The community response has been extremely positive. Regular shoppers return often, and Saturday opening has performed particularly well.
Hospice Mid-Northland acknowledges Cristina Ross for driving the relocation and the volunteers who have made the shop their own.
Furniture shop
The furniture shop moved into the former medical equipment storage area beside the Processing Centre on the same date.
The new location has a more open footprint, making it easier to arrange furniture, create better displays and allow customers to browse. A dedicated entrance has also made the space safer and easier to access.
The furniture shop relies on good-quality community donations. Items are sold at affordable prices, with proceeds supporting Hospice Mid-Northland.
Main Hospice Shop
The main Hospice Shop has received a fresh interior paint job. The Bella Rose area has expanded, linen shelving has improved display and storage capacity, and new clothing racks are helping create better aisles and make more stock visible.
Customer feedback has been positive, and the shop continues to be supported by a loyal group of regular customers.
